Christie Brinkley isn’t hiding the fact that she’s completely in love with her rocker boyfriend, John Mellencamp, but she’s been keeping their plans for the future under wraps lately. She finally opened up to People about the couple’s plans to wed and confirmed that there’s no reason to rush into that.
Brinkley told the magazine, “We’re just trying to enjoy each other and try not to put too much pressure on it. You never really know what’s going to happen. John and I are two people that have very full lives.”

Can we just take a minute to appreciate Brinkley and Mellencamp’s healthy attitude toward their relationship?
Both are older and have teenage kids. They don’t need to be married in order to prove anything. They can make their honeymoon phase last as long as they want. It’s beautiful that they’ve decided to remove the element of pressure to define their future from their relationship and just enjoy each other.

Plus, they’ve still got a lot to work out together. For one thing, they don’t live in the same city. Brinkley is in New York City while Mellencamp lives in South Carolina.
But Brinkley says they have way more similar interests than they do opposite interests. They both enjoy oil painting, something she could never do in front of people before falling for Mellencamp. She said, “I could never paint in front of anybody,” she said. “You don’t want to be judged. But with John I don’t have that feeling. It’s just great to be side by side.”

I hope that this is the last time they have to address wedding rumors, because their relationship seems so healthy and loving without the added pressure of marriage. The couple seems to share mutual respect, admiration and passion. And how is it not the cutest thing ever that the sweetheart model ends up with the singer of “Jack and Diane”?
