Try not to cry because you never got to see Lin-Manuel Miranda in Hamilton

I remember when I first started hearing all the hype about the hip-hop musical Hamilton. A woman I work with took a trip to New York City last fall just to see it and came back calling it “life changing.” I now know that I should’ve booked a plane ticket from Los Angeles to the Big Apple right then to go see the show!

Now, I’ll never get to see Lin-Manuel Miranda perform as Alexander Hamilton in the Broadway smash-hit, and I know I’m not alone. While the show that won 11 Tony Awards this year will continue to shake up Broadway, Miranda took his final bow as part of the cast on Saturday evening.

Jennifer Lopez, Mariska Hargitay, Jane Fonda, Spike Lee and Rosie O’Donnell were just a few of the celebrities reportedly in the audience for Miranda’s final performance. The curtain call, which was set to the theme song from The West Wing, was even live streamed online.

After the show, hundreds of fans waited outside in the rain to try to catch a glimpse of Miranda as he left the theater. He ended up treating fans with a special appearance on the theater balcony, where he waved to the crowd from under an umbrella, as pictured above.

“Teach ’em how to say goodbye…” Miranda tweeted, along with a picture of his chopped locks.
