Here’s the world we live in: You can be a 20-year-old Olympic gold and silver medalist, and people are still worried about whether you’ve had plastic surgery. McKayla Maroney has moved from gymnastics into the entertainment world, but she still has her eye on the gymnastics competition in Rio, so she participated in a video sending luck to the Rio 2016 athletes.
Naturally (and sadly), fans were left wondering if Maroney had plumped her lips since the last time we saw her in the spotlight. Seriously, guys, this is what we’re worrying about?

Maroney opened up to Seventeen about the pesky rumors. “Your face changes, you get older, your face fills out, and you fall into liking makeup and different stuff like that,” she says. “And for people saying that, for the most part — it would kind of hurt my feelings when you haven’t done anything. You just kind of have to keep being yourself and move forward with what you love.” Let’s all remember the (huge) difference between being 16 and being 20. The girl’s allowed to start wearing lipstick. Now let’s leave her Insta comments alone.

Actually, Maroney probably doesn’t need me to defend her. She was also able to take matters into her own hands just fine. She posted on Instagram and captioned the photo, “me thinking about how to get my face to look like I’ve never done anything to my face when I’ve never done anything to my face.” You tell ’em, girl.
