Farrah Abraham is really good at getting on reality shows – she’s done Celebrity Big Brother UK, Couples Therapy, Teen Mom, of course, and now, Million Dollar Matchmaker, the WE tv reincarnation of Patti Stanger‘s Millionaire Matchmaker, which used to live on Bravo. Since her relationship with Simon Saran ended, Farrah’s kept any other relationships she might be in on the down-low, although the rumors about her still being with Saran never quite stopped. On Friday’s episode of Million Dollar Matchmaker, she appealed to Patti Stanger for help finding a “Christian man” who would be a good father to her daughter, Sophia.

Slut-shaming Farrah has basically become a national pastime, especially on social media, but on Friday, Patti proved that such behavior is not only toxic and awful, but useless. She was firm with Farrah about her need to come to terms with her past traumas, as well as her time spent in the porn industry, and told Farrah that her pursuit of fame and money was not going to help her find a good relationship. Farrah, of course, protested, but she wasn’t, shall we say, her usual Farrah self. Patti told her she was ready for love, and reminded her that she did what she did, re the porn, because she wanted to provide for Sophia, but that work didn’t define her and she didn’t have to keep doing it.

In the end, Farrah met a dude! Ryan! He seems reasonable, and as though he actually likes her! Is it all a front? Maybe! (Probably?) But it doesn’t bother me if it is. I might be so numb to Farrah’s shenanigans at this point that her stunts cease to disturb me, but it was really nice to see a softer, more receptive and reasonable Farrah, and to see someone take her to task for her actions, while not degrading her as a human being. Who knew you could do both of those things at the same time?
Patti’s behavior towards Farrah wasn’t perfect, by the way. I’m not crazy about her equating porn with shame – Farrah shouldn’t have to be ashamed of doing porn, and porn doesn’t equal a miserable life and weak morals, but that’s going to take a while to drum into people. And while it’s possible that Farrah’s tired of all the hate she gets and is trying to turn over a new leaf, what difference does it make if it means we get to see a new Farrah, even if it only lasts for the duration of an episode?
