Nick Cannon thinks that fathers get the short end of the stick when it comes to child custody. Recently, he opened up to Howard Stern about what he feels is the worst part of his split from Mariah Carey, and it’s actually kind of endearing.
Cannon told Stern, “It’s kind of f***ed up when time with your kids is considered visitations. It’s unfair to the fathers in the situation. I’m just keeping it real… that’s pain, right there.”

As a way to combat the feeling that he’s missing out on his children, Cannon makes a rule for himself. He told stern, “Everything shuts down when I’m with my kids,. It’s their time [and] my house is like a big fun house. I have a candy store and slides… we’re just playing the whole time. But I’m also the most stern. I’m the disciplinarian, 100 percent. They know Dad don’t play.”
No family loves being torn apart by divorce, but it seems like Cannon has the right idea when it comes to his kids. Not seeing it as visitation, as the courts call it, but actual time with his kids.

Hearing him talk about being both the fun parent and the disciplinarian means he takes raising his kids seriously, which is something not everyone does, unfortunately. It really seems like the only anger Cannon has toward his divorce with Carey is that he can’t see his kids all the time. How can you not think he’s a little adorable for that?
With Carey engaged to James Packer, it will be interesting to see how that changes the dynamic between the exes and their shared children. With his age and experience, though, Packer should be mature enough to respect Cannon’s role and only add to the children’s lives.
