We’ve got some serious Criminal Minds news that could help fill the Derek Morgan-sized hole that Shemar Moore left when he exited the show in Season 11. That’s right: Paget Brewster is officially reprising her role as Emily Prentiss for a good chunk of Season 12.
After posting a teaser and toying with fans’ emotions in June, Brewster made the big announcement on Thursday, that she is, indeed, suiting up to help out the BAU once again.
“Yes! I’m shooting a whole bunch of episodes this year @CrimMinds_CBS! And it was so damn hard not telling you,” she wrote on Twitter.

Showrunner Erica Messer confirmed Brewster’s statement during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday.
“We’re excited to have Paget Brewster back for multiple episodes in our 12th season,” Messer said, via TVLine. “The BAU can use more help this year since they’ve got a lot of known and unknown subjects to catch.”
While it remains to be known exactly how much we will see her in the coming season, that didn’t stop Criminal Minds fans from freaking out about Prentiss’ return. The general consensus has been “finally” and “somebody call 911 because I’m overexcited.”
Brewster’s character came back for an episode in March to help the team track down a serial killer who copied other serial killers, but instead of satisfying viewers with her return, it just left many hungry for more Prentiss and nostalgic for a time when the show had a superior cast.
A lot of fans had hoped that Brewster would return to Criminal Minds after Grandfathered, which she starred on in its first and only season, was canceled. Looks like they’re getting their wish.
Tell us, how excited are you that Prentiss will be rejoining the BAU on Criminal Minds?
