Ben Higgins teased everyone with evidence that he might be moving on from his Bachelor platform to a congressional platform. Higgins built and released a website that mentioned he will be running as a Republican candidate in Colorado this November. He is running against the Democratic incumbent, Rep. Dan Pabon, who was just sentenced to one year of probation for driving under the influence.
Higgins understands that the leap is a little strange for most people. According to The Denver Post, Higgins said, “I am definitely not a politician, but I have a lot to offer through my years in the financial services industry and, more importantly, my work in charitable and humanitarian organizations.”

It sounds like he’s aware that his candidacy is a bit of a long shot, but it worked for Donald Trump, so why wouldn’t a reality star be able to take on congress?
It is strange that he chose this year to run a campaign because he’s already busy planning a wedding to his fiancee Lauren Bushnell, as well as co-starring in a new reality show with her. The couple will be featured in Ben and Lauren: Happily Ever After this coming October, so he could either give himself a huge advantage or ruin his chances with the show.

The good news for Bushnell is she’ll get an amazing new wardrobe as a politician’s wife. The bad news is a very busy husband for their first year of marriage.
But when you think about it, there are a lot of similarities between being the Bachelor and being in congress. Lots of suits, lots of charming large groups of people and most importantly, there’s the fact that he’s really great at saying things he doesn’t mean and making people believe him.
Earlier today, before anything major happened in his campaign, however, Higgins had to drop out. His statement said, “I regret that I must withdraw my candidacy. Despite my best efforts to pursue this opportunity in good faith, I recently received information that has made such a pursuit unworkable. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I will not be able to move forward as a candidate.”

He then spoke to his supporters and those who donated to his campaign cause. He said, “I find solace in knowing that our intentions and actions have been fair and sincere. I entered into this endeavor wanting to bring positive change to my community, and it is with that same spirit that I will move forward, albeit on a different path.”
Whether it was the nerves that he would lose or the fact that he’s already got a crazy-busy schedule for this year, we aren’t sure. But it’s probably for the best that he dropped out of the race. We’ll probably all get more answers during his new reality show.
