John Edwards’ mistress is back in the limelight promoting her tell-all book

Rielle Hunter, Senator John Edwards‘ former mistress, is back. Hunter did an interview with Good Morning America on July 22 and discussed the book she’s writing with her daughter Frances Quinn Hunter (whose John Edwards fathered), called Howie Do It — Finding Happiness Now, and the relationship she currently has with the former North Carolina senator.

According to Hunter, Edwards — whose wife Elizabeth, died of breast cancer in 2010 — is excellent at co-parenting. “We have the same goals,” she said. “We want the best for Quinn.”

News of Edwards’ affair with Hunter broke in 2010, after Edwards denied he was father to the couple’s child. The affair between Hunter and Edwards began in 2006, during Edwards’ presidential campaign. Hunter became pregnant in 2008. After Edwards and wife Elizabeth separated, and after her death, engagement rumors were flying, but they never came to fruition.

Hunter made quite the press rounds and discussed her relationship with Edwards, possible as a way to control the narrative. She gave an interview to GQ in 2010, and also did a photoshoot for the magazine in which she was pictured pantless, wearing pearls, and a man’s shirt. Hunter also went on to write a book, entitled What Really Happened, which went into great detail about how her affair with Edwards began, and alleged that she received daily harassing phone calls from Elizabeth Edwards. According to Hunter, she wrote the book so that her daughter would have a factual account of what happened between her mother and father. In a 2013 Huffington Post essay, Hunter apologized for her affair with the former Senator. “For years I was so viciously attacked by the media and the world that I felt like a victim,” she wrote. “I now realize that the attacks are actually beside the point. The point is: I behaved badly.”

In her GMA interview, Hunter confirmed that, currently, she and Edwards are “very, very good friends.”
