Does Sia wear her giant wigs onstage just for looks? It turns out she has another important reason for wearing them: The “Chandelier” singer has a terrible case of stage fright.

Sia performed for Good Morning America‘s summer concert series, but before she took the stage, she dished to anchor Amy Robach some of the fears that almost keep her from performing — and always keep her from showing her face and looking for the spotlight.
“I do not love performing,” she said. “I get really scared.”
She continued, “I just cried in the dressing room. I’m really croaky and I was like, ‘I’m not going to hit the high note and I want everyone to like me.’ It’s scary to perform!”

But Sia has a really good reason for continuing to produce music and perform it despite her fears.
“I do it because I want to make you happy,” Sia said, drawing cheers during her performance in New York. Despite her self-described croakiness, she performed all her hits, including “Chandelier,” “Cheap Thrills” and her newest single, “Unstoppable,” a fitting title for how she pulls through her stage fright time and time again.
Sia has always been open about her stage fright, letting her fans know that she wears the wigs because she doesn’t want anyone to focus on her face, just her voice. She told GMA that it can be tough to see through them, but, “Yeah, I see through my little tiny bangs’ slits.”
Sia will continue performing on her upcoming tour to support her new album, This Is Acting.
“It’s a pretty weird ride,” she said about the tour. “It’s more like a theatrical experience. It’s unusual, I would say. It’s an unusual experience. But even kids like it!”
