Rihanna will take on one of the most iconic roles in film history

She didn’t even have to be physically present at Comic-Con in San Diego to become the most talked-about celebrity at the expo. During the A&E show Bates Motel‘s panel, Rihanna announced via video that she is joining the cast of the popular TV show. But, because Rihanna never does anything unless she does it all the way, the singer revealed that she hasn’t been cast for just any old role on the show — she’s going to play Marion Crane, one of the most iconic characters ever in film.

How adorable, delightful and excited is RiRi in this clip?

The role of Crane was originally played by Janet Leigh in the 1960 Alfred Hitchcock film Psycho. Yep, she’s the one who checks into the Bates Motel, agrees to have dinner with Anthony Perkins’ creepy Norman Bates and makes the grave mistake of suggesting he put his mother in a mental institution. Bates, of course, loves his mother more than anyone on Earth and proves his loyalty by stabbing Crane to death in the shower scene to end all shower scenes.

Don’t expect Rihanna to re-enact that exact scene, however. When the character finally appears in the last season of the show, she’ll have an entirely different background and “her story will play out in a different way,” according to the show’s creators. RiRi is already something of a Comic-Con darling whose song with Sia, “Sledgehammer,” appeared over the closing credits of Star Trek Beyond — this announcement only increases her insane star power.

Seriously, is there anything she can’t do? She and Jimmy Fallon have such hilarious chemistry together that they should get their own variety show, and Rihanna has appeared as an actress in projects like Battleship, Annie and the upcoming film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.

More:Rihanna is definitely going through something tough but keeping it under wraps

At a time when celeb feuds and drama are at an all-time high — there’s no doubt you’ve heard everything about Kim Kardashian exposing Taylor Swift and Khloé Kardashian and Chloë Grace Moretz sparring like boxers in a ring — it’s really refreshing to know one that of the biggest celebs on the planet chooses to keep her focus on her work. Despite having her (prosthetic, probably) naked body featured in Kanye West’s controversial music video for “Famous” (the same song at the center of the Kanye/Taylor/Kim feud) and being the featured singer in Calvin Harris’ “This Is What You Came For” (the same song Swift’s people say she wrote), Rihanna hasn’t commented on a damn thing. Not a word. Nada.

Know why? She’s too busy working her tail off, both as a singer and an actress, to hold onto her reign as the most intriguing celebrity on the planet. Bravo, RiRi! Even if you are eventually, in a shower or elsewhere, killed off in Bates Motel, you earned your spotlight the honest way.
