The $100,000 Pyramid just gave a down-on-his-luck contestant new hope

I would be ecstatic if every single contestant on The $100,000 Pyramid went home with a six-figure prize, but unfortunately, big wins can sometimes be far and few between. That being said, the rarity of $100,000 prizes makes it that much sweeter when a celebrity and his or her partner manages to snag big money in the Winner’s Circle.

It’s not too often that a game show gets me right in the feels, but The $100,000 Pyramid certainly did tonight, when actor and former Toys ‘R’ Us employee Johnny Tammaro emerged victorious. Obviously, anybody who competes on the show could use those six figures, but Tammaro needed that sweet victory more than most. During the show’s introductory segment, he said that he had previously had an awesome job the Times Square Toys ‘R’ Us, but when the store closed, he became unemployed. He didn’t make a huge deal of it, even admitting that he’s really enjoyed having more time to spend with his son, but it was clear to me that the $100,000 (and the thrill of victory) would make a huge difference for him and his family.

A quick win would have been very satisfying, but instead, Tammaro went the delayed gratification route. He did well in both rounds but did not win big until paired with Fresh Off the Boat‘s Randall Park, and then he won with time to spare! The look on his face was one of pure delight — talk about a gratifying moment!

So, now that he’s a big winner, how is Tammaro going to put his windfall to use? He told host Michael Strahan that he would probably use his winnings to put a down payment on a house and to buy his wife, son and mom a few special gifts.

I am always pleased when somebody wins big on The $100,000 Pyramid, but tonight, that was an understatement. I am so happy for Johnny Tammaro and his family. I am also happy that the show’s revival isn’t turning out to be as celebrity-focused as I initially feared it might be. Strahan and the celebrity guests may add a little flavor to The $100,000 Pyramid, but ultimately, victories like Tammaro’s are what the show is all about.
