10 great Comic-Con 2016 moments you missed

If you consider yourself a card-carrying member of pretty much any fandom, then you’re probably really jealous of the hordes of fans who made it out to the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con. The biggest conference for all things movies, TV and comic books, Comic-Con is packed to the gills with fans who want to hear the latest updates about their fave fandoms. Fortunately, you don’t need a front-row seat at the panels to see some of the conference’s biggest moments and announcements. Here are just a few amazing things you may have missed from this year’s Comic-Con:

1. Brie Larson scored a big Marvel role

Room Oscar winner Brie Larson took the stage at the Marvel Studios Comic-Con panel to announce something major: that she would take on the role of Captain Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She joined dozens of other superheroes and villains on stage for the announcement, and the Captain Marvel flick is set for release in March 2019.

2. Justice League shows off fun footage

After the hyper-serious Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice debuted to less-than-stellar reviews, it was important for the upcoming Justice League film to show that it could take itself just a little less seriously. Fortunately, the new footage that premiered at Comic-Con showed off a goofier side to the D.C. superheroes. Ezra Miller, who plays The Flash, is particularly hilarious in the role, as he justifies joining up with Batman because he, well, “needs friends.”

3. There’s a new Blair Witch Project sequel — and it looks amazing

Though there was already some buzz around upcoming horror flick The Woods, which already released a very unsettling teaser trailer to the song “Every Breath You Take,” Lionsgate finally revealed the truth behind this creepfest. It turns out that The Woods was simply a working title for a new sequel to the original found footage movie The Blair Witch Project, simply titled Blair Witch. And boy, does it look scary.

4. Wonder Woman trailer proves the character is the feminist superhero we need

Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman was the best part of Dawn of Justice, but she didn’t get nearly enough screen time. Fortunately, the trailer for her standalone film — revealed at Comic-Con — proved that she’ll have plenty of time to be a badass. The new trailer shows Wonder Woman fighting in World War I alongside her love interest, played by Chris Pine. But don’t confuse the new trailer with a romance: When Pine’s character tells her that he “can’t let her” continue with her dangerous fight, our girl reminds him that what she does isn’t up to him.

5. Legends of the Hidden Temple gets a movie makeover

If you were obsessed with this Nickelodeon game show when you were a kid, you’ll love the new trailer for the film based on the series. The premise? A Legends of the Hidden Temple-obsessed kid becomes trapped inside the legend he was trying so hard to prove existed.

6. Netflix’s Luke Cage scores a teaser

Already binge-watched Jessica Jones and Daredevil? No worries! Marvel’s new Netflix series begins streaming on Sept. 30, and this new teaser should get you seriously hyped.

7. Iron Fist is also on its way

Let’s be honest: You’re going to binge-watch Luke Cage over one long, sweatpants-filled weekend. Fortunately, Comic-Con revealed a new trailer for Iron Fist, which will begin streaming sometime next year. Time to start creating a binge-watch schedule.

8. Black Panther gets a casting list

Though the cast for the upcoming Marvel flick had already been announced, we finally got more details about the actors’ on-screen roles. Michael B. Jordan has been confirmed as playing Erik Killmonger, while Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira will be playing Nakia and Okoye, who act as Black Panther’s personal bodyguards.

9. Rihanna is checking in to Bates Motel

Is this the craziest news to come out of Comic-Con? It just might be. As announced during the Comic-Con panel, “Work” singer Rihanna is stepping into one iconic role — and, also, a shower — on A&E’s drama. The pop star will play Janet Leigh’s part of Marion Crane in the Psycho prequel, which fans may remember gets a little… stabby.

10. The new Suicide Squad teaser gets everyone hyped

Thank “squad” the wait is almost over. The new supervillain movie, which hits theaters on Aug. 5, aired a bonus teaser with lots of crazy footage for fans to devour before they see the new flick. As expected, Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn steals the show with her gum-snapping and Bat attacks.
