When Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner first split in June 2015, Hollywood was taken by surprise. The couple, who got married in 2005, had three kids together and was seemingly happy ever since they first met on the set of Daredevil in 2004. However, following rumors that Affleck cheated on Garner with their nanny, Christine Ouzounian, a divorce was inevitable. #Nannygate — although frequently denied by Affleck himself — had taken over their marriage. But that didn’t mean that Garner and Affleck were going to cut ties right off the bat. Until, of course, now.
While the divorce papers are still waiting to be filed, a source has confirmed to People magazine that any time during which Garner and Affleck are seen together is not a reason to believe they are rekindling their marriage. And recent rumors emerging surrounding the ideas of the two planning a second honeymoon or Garner being pregnant with yet another one of Affleck’s children were immediately slammed. Instead, the couple’s brief vacation in Paris — as Ben Affleck is currently filming DC Comics’ Justice League in London — was nothing more than a family gathering. And as People reports, “There are no plans for a second honeymoon anywhere” and “Jennifer did not take Ben back. They are 100 percent still separated and focused on co-parenting for the kids’ sake.”
Yep, the rumors are all false. And the road to divorce continues.

While the notion of the exes dealing with one another for the sake of their family is heartwarming, it’s also heartbreaking. In fact, in order to avoid any more heartbreak, it could be time to let it all go. Because, if they’re still unable to mend their marriage — despite all of the time they’ve been spending with one another — then perhaps not getting back together is actually what’s best. For both them and their kids. Especially because, as Garner revealed in an interview this past March, the overall strain of their divorce has not been easy. And was a long time coming.
“It was a real marriage. It wasn’t for the cameras. And it was a huge priority for me to stay in it. And that did not work,” Garner spilled to Vanity Fair. “We had been separated for months before I ever heard about the nanny. She had nothing to do with our decision to divorce. She was not a part of the equation. Bad judgment? Yes. It’s not great for your kids for [a nanny] to disappear from their lives. I have had to have conversations about the meaning of ‘scandal.'”

To say the very least, these new rumors did make our hearts skip a beat with excitement. However, it’s also almost too much for fans to handle, even if they have decided to hang onto hope.

So, Ben and Jen, you guys just follow your hearts and do what’s best for you and the sanity of your children. But just know that it’s time that we let go of our hope. And if for some reason you do believe you can be together forever, please still manage to let us know. Until then, you must remain in the list of broken Hollywood marriages we’ll never get over.
