Mixing business with pleasure is never a good call — Mary J. Blige is the latest example of that.

According to TMZ, Blige just filed for divorce from her husband of 12 years — who also worked as her manager. Blige and her hubby, Martin “Kendu” Isaacs, tied the knot back in 2003, and it’s unclear why or exactly when their marriage will be ending — on divorce documents, Blige listed the date of separation as “to be determined.” She also wrote that the split is because of irreconcilable differences, but offered no more detail than that.
As for how assets will be split, things could get messy. Though Blige and Isaacs have no children together, she is asking the judge assigned to their divorce to block Isaacs from receiving any future spousal support. It’s unknown whether the two have a prenuptial agreement and reps for both Blige and Isaacs haven’t responded to requests for comment, TMZ writes.

As for why they split, an interview Blige gave to Stella magazine in 2014 provides some clues.
“He always has my back — he’s going to fight to the death for Mary J Blige. The downside is that there’s no separation — it’s on all the time,” she explained. “When you don’t feel like answering to your manager, he’s still your husband. If one of you doesn’t want to talk about something right now, you have to respect that. And you have to respect each other’s space.”
Blige’s rules about friendships outside of the relationship may also have had something to do with their split — she famously forbade her husband from being friends with women.
“All females for me, all guys for him,” she said “There’s none of that, ‘Oh, that’s my female friend. Oh, that’s my guy friend.’ No. Not in a marriage, I’ve never seen that work.”
