Good news for everyone who’s been missing Jon Stewart post-Daily Show: HBO has said he’ll have a new parody show on air this fall. We may not necessarily be seeing him in the flesh, but Stewart will be the voice of the animated show, according to HBO programming president Casey Bloys, who spoke to reporters on Saturday morning. And it sounds like Stewart’s new show could arrive just in time to guide us through the surreal showdown between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton during the presidential election. Bloys says he hopes the show will air in September or October.

“I talked to Jon before this,” Bloys told The Hollywood Reporter. “He is establishing an animation studio. He wants to get material out on a daily basis. The idea is that it’s an animated parody of a cable news network in an Onion-like portal. It will be his voice, in his actual voice, and his tone.”
Fans were surprised when Stewart decided to leave his gig hosting The Daily Showlast year, which he described in an interview with The Guardian as “the most perfect job in the world.” But Stewart said the job was starting to feel a little stale to him: “It’s not like I thought the show wasn’t working anymore or that I didn’t know how to do it. It was more, ‘Yup, it’s working. But I’m not getting the same satisfaction.'”
We don’t know much about Stewart’s new show, but we do know that showrunners plan to have Stewart comment on events as they happen in real time. Deadline reports that Bloys said they’re working on developing “new technology that will allow him to produce timely, current-events-focused short-form digital content, which will be refreshed on HBO Now multiple times throughout the day.” So, fans of Stewart can start getting excited about having new content from him in lots of short bursts during the day.

Since leaving The Daily Show last year, which he hosted for 16 years, Stewart’s kept himself busy. He’s popped up as a guest star on a variety of shows ranging from The Colbert Report to Full Frontal with Samantha Bee and WWESummer Slam. It’ll be nice to have him back in our lives on a regular basis, because we’re dying to know what he has to say about the upcoming election. Let’s just hope Stewart gets as much satisfaction from his new gig as we have from his years of incisive, hilarious commentary.
