Say what you want about Meghan Edmonds, she clearly wants to make a difference for those suffering with colon cancer. This was evident during tonight’s episode of The Real Housewives of Orange County, when Edmonds and her good friend Heather Dubrow headed to Washington, D.C. to speak to a group of brave individuals diagnosed with a terrible disease.

Edmonds’ interest in colon cancer was prompted by her friend LeeAnn (who happens to be Jim Edmonds’ ex-wife), who tragically passed away last year. Dubrow is also sadly familiar with the pain and suffering caused by colon cancer, as the disease claimed her grandmother’s life. These two genuinely want to make a difference, and I have to say, RHOD‘s LeeAnne Locken could learn a thing or two from their approach to charitable efforts.
The great thing about Edmonds’ efforts is that she’s not just talking about colon cancer and reveling in the attention. She’s also trying to make a change via legislation that will encourage health-care measures designed to screen for and prevent colon cancer. As she told Dubrow, Medicare does not have to cover the full cost of polyp removal. She is eager to help change that, so that money does not get in the way of preventative care.

In her quest to gain support for a colorectal screening bill, Edmonds spoke at a conference in Washington, D.C. Her speech had a few hiccups, but she was able to get over her nervousness and deliver a truly compelling address, complete with just the right amount of urgency and the right amount of empathy.
Edmonds and Dubrow’s journey to D.C. was by far the most compelling aspect of tonight’s episode. Shannon Beador’s misadventures with cupping were amusing, as was Kelly Dodd’s attempt to stave off accusations of cheating while she was still married. But ultimately, as fun as the goofiness and drama can be, this is when I like the Real Housewives shows best: when the cast members use their influence and connections to make a real difference for those who need it most.
