Miranda Lambert & Blake Shelton dealt with their divorce in very different ways

Miranda Lambert is usually pretty guarded when it comes to sharing her feelings and what’s happening in her personal life, but she’s laying all her emotions on the table for her new music — which is basically what she’s been working on for the last year.

We’ve read a lot of reports about Shelton and his new girlfriend, Gwen Stefani, in the media, yet in comparison there have been very few stories about Lambert (apart from when she started dating Anderson East) and this is because she’s “been hunkered down for a year writing, recording, trying to live a normal life and getting ready for a new album,” she told Billboard magazine in a new interview.

“No one’s heard from me. I’ve been pretty silent all this time. And now that I’m coming with a song, it does make me nervous, and I hope that people are respectful of it and understand what I’ve been doing,” she continued. “But I’ve never hidden anything or tried to be too mysterious. I’m pretty straightforward in my music. I always have been, and that hasn’t changed. With my songwriting, it’s taking a journey with what’s been going on in my everyday life — good, bad, ugly and everything in between…”

She also described how she spent her time post-divorce, revealing that the hard times in her life helped her to become a better songwriter and to forge better relationships with the people she writes with. But she also took time for herself.

“I did spend a lot of time being quiet and being by myself. That’s part of a journey anyone has to take in their life, and sometimes we don’t slow down enough to take it. I’m glad I did, because now I have stories to share,” Lambert confesses.

So, does this mean that her fifth (still untitled) album could be about her divorce? Is it essentially a breakup album?

Well, no.

“I’m never gonna have an album that’s quote-unquote a ‘heartbreak album,'” she says. “Because everybody has bad moments, and then you come out of it and you have a great moment, and then you have some somber times. I want an emotional journey, because that’s what life is, and I want to document that. But I don’t think anybody’s gonna listen to this new project and say, ‘Ohhh, it’s so sad.’ Yeah, there’s sad songs. But I’ve had sad songs on every record I’ve ever made…”
