Kanye West is a good designer on his own, he doesn’t need fake KUWTK scenes

The Kardashian’s trip to Cuba was obviously for the show. It’s no secret that the family gets sponsored vacations to different locations around the world each season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. What wasn’t obvious right away, was that this Cuba trip was basically a commercial for Kanye West.

Last week’s episode showed the sisters with West in a rum-tasting room learning the legend of Pablo, creator of that particular rum. Everyone kept repeating the name as a way of insinuating that the rum distillery was where West decided on the name for his album. Also, probably to remind us that he has an album, so we should buy it. It wasn’t subtle, but I thought it was a one-time thing so I let it go.

But they did it again tonight.

In tonight’s episode, the family goes dancing, but a tragedy happens and West’s wife, Kim Kardashian, and their daughter, North, forgot their dancing dresses at the hotel. In a hero’s moment, West fashions a dress out of the fabric available and of course, it looks great.

West is an incredible designer, so I have no doubt that were this situation to happen in real life, he probably wouldn’t be half bad at creating a dress for his daughter or his wife. But Keeping Up with the Kardashians is a well-oiled machine. There is no world in which Kardashian forgets an outfit. She’s got a team of at least five people to make sure that doesn’t happen.

West is in a very public quest to get fashion designers to fund his line and help him turn his dream into a reality. And I’m all for Kardashian supporting her husband any way she can, I just think the KUWTK writers could have figured out a less-obvious way to sell his talents. Maybe create a believable situation, like North just wants something handmade by her dad. Really, anything is more believable than him creating something from nothing in the middle of Cuba.
