Sounds like Mark Consuelos wants Kelly Ripa to host Live! With Kelly solo

Live! With Kelly fans are anxiously waiting to see who Kelly Ripa and producers name as the new permanent on-air replacement for former co-host Michael Strahan. However, it sounds like Ripa’s husband, Mark Consuelos, thinks she would be better off just hosting the show solo.

During a recent interview at a red carpet event, Consuelos was asked if he knew any inside information on who Live! With Kelly is planning on hiring to replace Strahan.

“You have a feeling that I know about ‘Live!’,” Consuelos said. “No, I have no idea!”

The actor, who has appeared several times as a guest co-host with Ripa, then dropped the following interesting piece of information:

“Sometimes I think that, um, they could just… she could,” Consuelos hesitated. “I don’t know. I don’t know. I really don’t have a clue.”

It sounds like Consuelos was going to say that he thinks Ripa could just host the show solo! While letting Ripa host the show alone would differ from the program’s original co-host format, we definitely think Ripa could handle hosting it all on her own.

However, it sounds like Live’s producers do want to hire a co-host, and they’re taking their time with the decision in order to find someone who is the perfect fit for the job.

“It’s a highly coveted job. There’s no other show where the co-host gets to have their name in the title of the show — you don’t get that kind of prominence,” an inside source told Page Six. “Just being in the mix is helpful to their careers and reputation.”

According to this inside source, Live! has taken some names off the table as those possible co-hosts have additional commitments they might prioritize over the show. The producers want someone who can fully commit to Live! for the long haul.

“Rob [Lowe], Jeff [Gordon] and Mario [Lopez] are not getting the job,” the source revealed.
