Shemar Moore was swindled by a friend, but it isn’t the money that upsets him

Shemar Moore played FBI agent Derek Morgan on Criminal Minds for 11 seasons, but this time, he’s the one who got swindled. Actor Keith Tisdell, who guest starred on two episodes Criminal Minds, was sentenced Wednesday on charges that he stole more than $60,000 from Moore.

Moore and Tisdell became friends after Tisdell appeared on the show. Later, Tisdell became involved with a charity organization that Moore started to help battle multiple sclerosis called Baby Girl LLC.

“In bringing that story to life, we became friends,” Moore told Judge Hayden Zacky, according to The LA Times. “We went into business together.”

When an audit revealed cash from Baby Girl LLC was missing, Moore says he confronted Tisdell, who denied stealing the money.

“In my mind, he wasn’t man enough to look me in the eye and fess up,” Moore said in court.

According to Moore, the theft had gone undiscovered for some time. Moore said during their friendship, he also bought Tisdell $10,000 rims for his car, funded shared overseas vacations and gave him up to $20,000 to help with expenses.

Tisdell was arrested on suspicion of embezzlement in January, but later admitted to grand theft. He was sentenced to probation and 45 days of Caltrans labor.

While Tisdell didn’t find himself in jail this time, he will end up behind bars if he does not pay back the money to Moore and stay out of trouble for three years. If he does pay the money back and stay out of trouble, the conviction may be expunged from his record, according to the judge.

While Tisdell agreed to repay Moore the sum of $61,084, Moore says the money is not what upsets him the most, but that Tisdell betrayed his friendship.

“I’ve done a lot for him because he had me, my friends fooled,” Moore said. “I’m not here for money. I’m here because he betrayed a friendship. This is not OK. You don’t do this to people.”
