Something is dreadfully wrong with The Real Housewives of Orange County when the highlight of each episode is seeing Meghan Edmonds get poked and prodded as she pursues her goal of becoming a mother. I can be a squeamish person, but honestly, I’d rather watch Edmonds give herself shots all day than listen to the Housewives argue about the same two topics at every single party they attend.

I guess I should be grateful, then, that Vicki Gunvalson gave me a new reason to be upset. After finally managing to establish something of a connection with Edmonds, she threw it all away in favor of a tactless comment about in vitro fertilization. According to Gunvalson, IVF is just nasty. Her comment has Twitter in an uproar, and for good reason — it’s just not something you say to a woman who is desperate to get pregnant.
Gunvalson was by no means the only RHOC person to say something completely inappropriate. Her new best bud also spoke her mind, and needless to say, nobody was impressed. The Housewives didn’t really dissect Gunvalson’s comment about IVF being gross, but they certainly exploded when Kelly Dodd used the C word. Provocative language is natural on a show like this, but wow, these ladies really need to think before they speak.

Twitter users were just as upset by Dodd’s language as they were by Gunvalson’s IVF remark. One RHOC viewer made a great point: It’s ridiculous for Gunvalson to take issue with Edmonds’ talk of IVF and then to be totally fine with her new BFF using one of the most derogatory insults possible.
Gunvalson has time and time again accused the other Housewives of lacking empathy. In light of these complaints, her comment about Edmonds is the ultimate in hypocrisy. The last thing a woman wants to hear when she’s trying to get pregnant (or, for that matter, when she is pregnant) is that she or anything about the baby-making process is gross. If Gunvalson continues to behave with this level of insensitivity, there is no hope for a future friendship with Edmonds.
