Taylor Swift’s summer hasn’t been the easiest. It started with a major breakup from Calvin Harris, then there was that whole thing with Kimye — that one hurt. And just yesterday, people were trying to pit Swift’s BFF, Karlie Kloss, against her. It looks like Swift has had enough drama for the summer and wants to change everyone’s focus back to something more important — the Louisiana flooding.
Right now, there are about 40,000 homes in Louisiana that have been flooded because of a levee failure in the state. Tens of thousands of people are displaced with all of their belongings ruined and Swift wanted to do her part to help. So she did what any huge celebrity does and she donated money to help out.

Except, unlike every other celebrity, Swift donated $1 million. That’s a huge donation for a place she doesn’t have any major ties to.
Well, except that it was the start of her 1989 tour and somewhere she felt very welcomed and loved.
In a statement, Swift said, “We began The 1989 World Tour in Louisiana, and the wonderful fans there made us feel completely at home. The fact that so many people in Louisiana have been forced out of their own homes this week is heartbreaking.”

She also added, “I encourage those who can to help out and send your love and prayers their way during this devastating time.”
It’s unfortunate that it takes actual tragedy to bring everything back into perspective for everyone. When you think about all those people who lost everything and still have no home to go back to, you start to forget why you cared that Kim Kardashian leaked a video to Snapchat.
We want to celebrate Swift for doing some great things with both her platform and her resources. And we’re really glad she’s back in the headlines doing great things again.
