No wonder Courteney Cox has changed her tune about altering her appearance

Courteney Cox is about as well adjusted as A-listers get. After being in the spotlight for decades, she knows how to deal with fame — and what works for her. On this week’s episode of Running Wild with Bear Grylls, Cox opened up about how she deals with the press, especially the pressures of being a woman in Hollywood and being expected to maintain perfect looks.

While some stars have spoken very publicly about hating fame, Cox admitted she feels quite lucky to have the status she does. While she doesn’t feel burdened by the limelight, she has learned how to deal with those mean trolls that just love comment sections, saying, “If I ever want to feel really bad about myself, I just click on one of those Daily Mail comment sections.” Rule No. 1, ladies — in case you ever become superstars — never, ever read the comments. You’re just asking for a good cry over a tub of ice cream.

And Cox hasn’t been blind to all the chatter about her changing looks over the years. She told Bear Grylls, “Getting older has not been… I don’t think it’s the easiest thing. But I have learned lessons,” she said. “You know, I think I was trying to keep up with getting older, trying to chase that… you know, it’s something you can’t keep up with. So, the more you relax into it and the less I try… ’cause sometimes you find yourself trying and then you look at a picture of yourself and go, ‘Oh, God.’ Like, you look horrible. I have done things that I regret, and luckily they’re things that dissolve and go away. So, um, that’s good, because it’s not always been my best look.”

With headlines like, “What happened to Courteney Cox’s face?” and “Courteney Cox Admits to Too Much Plastic Surgery, Blames Fame” it’s no wonder that Cox has learned to stop caring about what others say about her appearance — let alone read the comment section. When you have all the money in the world, it’s easy to see how you could start wondering if an expensive surgery might make you feel a tiny bit better about aging. Or at least stave off the trolls. Fortunately, Cox has realized the only opinion that really matters is her own, and she’s figured out what that self-acceptance looks like for her. She told Grylls, “So, now I just have a new motto: ‘Just let it be.'” That’s advice we can all use, even those of us who didn’t star on America’s favorite sitcom.
