Elon Musk & Amber Heard Are Officially Hanging Out So Basically They’re In Love

Update, March 2, 12 p.m. PT: Persistence pays off (if you’re a billionaire like Elon Musk).

After trying for literal years to score a date with Amber Heard, the stars aligned and she turned single and Musk got what he’s wanted for basically ever.

According to Page Six, the two kept it low key by attending a screening of Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power in Palo Alto. The event was hosted by Apple CEO Tim Cook.

This is after Musk and Heard were caught sneaking into the same room in a Miami hotel in August, though they both denied at the time that anything fishy was going on — Musk claimed his friend Heard was at the same hotel and he offered to let her use his fancy suite during the day while he was off launching spaceships. Ya know, like ya do.

Whether they’re actually dating now or just went on a little hang sesh, though, the world can probably slow its roll, since this is like, the second time they’ve ever been seen together. Except we know from experience (Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom?) that as soon as a couple celebs start hanging out, everyone will just assume they’re in love and having babies and living happily ever after. At least it kind of sounds like that’s what Musk has wanted for years, so we can kind of root for that?

Elon Musk has no chill.

The billionaire Tesla founder has been linked lately to newly divorced Amber Heard. But what the headlines about their tryst haven’t revealed (until now) is that Musk has been thirsty for Heard for literally years — he tried to get a date with her back when she was dating her now ex-husband, Johnny Depp.

The Hollywood Reporter got ahold of some leaked emails between Musk and film director Robert Rodriguez, sent in 2013. At the time, Heard was starring in Rodriguez’s film Machete Kills, a film in which Musk made a cameo appearance. Musk and Heard never actually met on set, though the emails reveal he really wished they had.

“If there is a party or event with Amber, I’d be interested in meeting her just out of curiosity,” Musk wrote to Rodriguez. “Allegedly, she is a fan of George Orwell and Ayn Rand… most unusual.”

He later followed up with another email saying he knew she was in a long-term relationship with Depp, but that she “seems like an interesting person to meet.”

“Can you send her a note saying I would like to get together for lunch in LA?” he asked Rodriguez. “Am not angling for a date.”

Musk, we all see you. You’re trying to act breezy, but you’re not breezy. That was angling for a date if I’ve ever seen it.

Since Depp’s family was spreading rumors during the long, bitter divorce that Heard was only with Depp for his money, it was immediately newsworthy when she was spotted with Musk before the divorce was even finalized. But she proved those rumors wrong when she donated her entire divorce settlement to charity, and if there was any lingering doubt, the fact that Musk has been pursuing Heard and not the other way around can probably lay those gold-digging rumors to rest.
