You love getting your weekly dose of drama on The Real Housewives of New Jersey, but how about The Real Giudice Girls of New Jersey? Bravo recently released a brief clip of the four girls modeled after the typical RHONJ opener. It’s a cute, sassy video that delves into each girl’s personality (especially the super-organized Gabriella and the rambunctious Milania), but it might not be as innocent as it seems.

The girls appear to be naturals in front of the camera, but is it really a good idea to place such a focus on them? I get that fans are curious about what family life looks like for the Giudices when one parent is behind bars, but it all just seems too intrusive for a family that is going through a very difficult ordeal.
Two of the girls are too young to really understand what’s going on, and I hate to imagine what they’ll think when they’re older and the full scope of the situation hits them. Will they be laughing at their tag lines then, or will they be saddened by the fact that, between their father’s absence and their time parading in front of TV crews, they never got to enjoy a real childhood?

There’s a reason so many of the housewives make an effort to keep their kids out of the mix when they’re filming for this show: They want their children to enjoy at least some semblance of normalcy. Life in the public eye can be very damaging for young children, especially when their parents are mostly on TV because they’re good at creating needless drama.
As bad as exposure to reality TV film crews can be for a typical Real Housewives household, it’s far worse in the Giudices’ situation. The girls already have to endure far more than anybody should at such a young age. They were separated first from their mother and then their father, and all the while, their family has been at the center of a lot of negative publicity. During this difficult time, it’s just not healthy to add the chaos of reality television.

Bethenny Frankel says it best: “Kids with microphones on them — it’s not natural.” Unfortunately, I suspect much of the damage has already been done. I wish the best for the Giudice girls, but I don’t want to see them on RHONJ.
