$100,000 Pyramid contestant gets something so much better than just money

The goal on The $100,000 Pyramid is always to make it to the Winner’s Circle and score a six-figure prize. Few contestants are able to actually achieve this financial windfall, but sometimes, their consolation prize is just as good, if not better.

During tonight’s episode, a contestant named John reminded viewers that, while winning $100,000 is amazing, money is definitely not everything. He killed it during the first round, and then, when he made it into the Winner’s Circle, he told Michael Strahan that he was hoping to use any winnings he amassed to buy his girlfriend of four years a truly spectacular engagement ring. This drew an impressive reaction from the crowd, with people cheering loudly at the idea of an engagement prompted by The $100,000 Pyramid.

The stakes were definitely high going into the Winner’s Circle; Strahan put it best when he claimed that John was gunning for “$50,000 and a marriage.” Sadly, despite acing the Winner’s Circle, John did not walk away with the $100,000 he desired. He finished his first stint in the Winner’s Circle with a full 15 seconds to spare but was not able to snag a second victory. Things just didn’t go as well when he was paired with Bridget Moynahan. That being said, $50,000 can get you a really nice ring!

John and his then-girlfriend’s excitement was obvious, but sadly, viewers did not get to witness an on-screen proposal. This can mostly be attributed to the fact that he didn’t have a ring at the time, but a few viewers wished he’d thrown caution to the wind and proposed then and there — and worried about the ring later.

Turns out, John did ultimately propose, although he chose not to do so in front of the TV cameras. He shared a picture of him and his bride-to-be on Twitter, and wow — what a lovely couple!

These days, I find myself thinking more and more about just how life-changing a win on The $100,000 Pyramid can be. Sure, these two were probably going to get engaged anyway, but think what a special story they have now. Better yet, they just might enjoy Michael Strahan’s presence during their big day. I am so grateful for moments like these on The $100,000 Pyramid. They make it more than just another game show.
