Paris Jackson’s plea to stop bullying is something everyone should see

Paris Jackson‘s life choices have, for some time now, been the subject of much criticism from internet trolls, and in a video posted to Instagram on Sept. 14, she directly addressed all her haters.

It’s just too bad she deleted it.

However, a fan has since uploaded the video to YouTube, and it shows a makeup-free Jackson speaking about the hate she constantly endures on social media as she encourages people to stop bullying and reveals the damaging effect it has had on her life.

“I don’t understand how there can be so much hatred in the world right now,” she begins. “I’ve tried sticking up for myself. I’ve tried the whole blocking the haters thing, not reading the comments, I’ve tried a lot of things. Ignoring it. But it’s hard when there’s so much of it.”

Jackson is visibly emotional as she speaks about the torment she has endured online, telling fans that when she was aged 14, it got so bad that she tried to end her own life.

“When I was 14 I got so much hatred that I tried to kill myself and I took, like, a two-year break from social media and then people asked me to come back, to make my Instagram public again, so I did. And nothing changed!” she continued, later apologizing to people if she was doing something that they don’t like but adding, “I’m just tired of it. I’m just really, really tired. And, I mean, I know I’m not the only one,” she confessed.

Jackson wants to remind people that we’re all humans with feelings and emotions. Hateful comments can have a lasting and severely damaging effect on their recipient, which is why we all should take a good, hard look in the mirror, because if you dislike someone or disapprove of their life choices, then there’s a very easy way to fix this. Simply “unfriend” or “unfollow,” because holding on to that negativity is not only hurting the victims of bullying, it’s also hurting you.

If we can learn anything from Paris Jackson’s emotional plea, it’s that social media shouldn’t be a place to vent and express your frustrations, not without thinking of the implications they might have for others first.

We applaud Jackson for her courage to create this video, and we hope it propels change. As for why she deleted her video? It seems that people reacted in a negative way (once again), as she posted a photo of herself shortly afterward with the caption, “looks like i’m the villain now. didn’t know defending myself was a crime. my dearest apologies. guess my careers over lolol.”
