Constance Wu presenting at the Emmys really fired up viewers

Asian-American actress Constance Wu from the show Fresh Off the Boat presented at tonight’s Emmy Awards, but folks on Twitter are demanding to know why the comedienne wasn’t nominated.

The ABC sitcom Fresh Off the Boat is about the life of young Eddie Huang and his Asian-American family’s life in Florida in the 1990s. Randall Park plays Eddie’s dad, Louis, and Constance Wu plays Eddie’s mom, Jessica. Both Park and Wu took to the stage tonight to share the winners of the Emmy for Guest Actor and Actress in a Comedy Series. But before they read the names off the teleprompter, they addressed the elephant in the room — that their show wasn’t nominated.

Wu said, “This year, for the first time, the Creative Arts Emmys were held over two nights.”

Park replied, “Wow, that makes three nights of Emmys. So I guess that means Fresh Off the Boat will get our award on the fourth night?”

Wu chirped back, “Let it go, Randall.”

Well, Twitter is not letting it go.

Caroline Framke didn’t take the snub lightly:

Ryan Schwartz also didn’t like that Wu wasn’t nominated:

Philip Wang was a little more optimistic:

Both Wu and Park are extremely talented comic actors and should certainly have been nominated, but if Orphan Black is any indicator, it can take a show several seasons before it gets recognized by the big awards outlets. And between major stalwarts Modern Family and Veep, there just isn’t a lot of room. Given that Aziz Ansari’s show Master of None won an Emmy tonight, we think more Asian-Americans will be represented on TV in the future.

Plus, did you catch what Alan Yang, writer of Master of None, had to say about Asian-Americans in Hollywood? Oh, it was fantastic:

Our fingers are crossed that Fresh Off the Boat gets its fair share of Emmy nominations in 2017.
