I know Game of Thrones has proved time and time again it can and will kill off any and all characters, but the show is not allowed to kill off Sansa and Arya Stark.
More: Don’t mourn Game of Thrones‘ series finale news — it’s actually for the best
Game of Thrones actors, Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner, who play Arya and Sansa respectively, debuted some new tattoos at the Emmys last night that got the world buzzing with theories.
The tattoos are of the date Aug. 7, 2009, when Turner and Williams both found out they were cast in the show.
“That’s the date that we both that we both got Game of Thrones… that we both heard that we got it,” Turner explained on the E! red carpet. “We got them together just the other day. Still a bit crusty.”
We can go ahead and gush about Williams’ and Turners’ adorable friendship on a different day, because right now the more pressing issue is that the girls got these tattoos at this time for a reason. Have their days of acting together on Game of Thrones come to an end? Will one of them (or both of them) die in the upcoming Season 7?

What we do know is that Game of Thrones Season 7 is currently in production, and it’s going to be such an intense season that HBO is pushing the premiere date back a few months. We also know that Williams was allowed to read the Season 7 finale script and that after reading it she tweeted, “shit gets REAL,” adding, “nothing will prepare you for this.” Since she was allowed to read the script, that probably means she makes it at least to the finale, but no guarantees what happens then.
Turner’s storyline in the upcoming season is a bit of a mystery now that she and Jon are ruling Winterfell together. Will she stay in Winterfell? Will she get married again? Will she be reunited with Arya and Bran?
I think a Stark reunion is definitely likely, but if any more Starks have to die in the new season, I think it’s definitely Sansa that’s on the chopping block since her growth last season was so poignant and had such a complete arc. Bran, Arya and Jon still have a ways to go, while Sansa seems settled at this point. And being settled is never a safe place to be in the world of Westeros.
Admittedly, it could be that Williams and Turner just really like each other and really like the show and thought “Why not?” But I doubt the tattoos were simply a whimsical decision.
