Now this is how you start a new season. The Big Bang Theory Season 10 premiere was a success. You know it’s a fantastic episode when you laugh from beginning to end, which is exactly what Penny and Leonard’s second wedding did.

When Season 9 ended, not only were Penny and Leonard planning another wedding for their families, but Leonard’s dad, Alfred, and Sheldon’s mom, Mary, hit it off. Regarding Mary and Alfred, it also seemed like the two even spent the night together.
Well, as revealed in Monday’s episode, they did not hook up. They only shared a drink and a conversation, but do plan to visit one another in their respective states. That didn’t mean their newfound friendship and connection didn’t make everyone feel super uncomfortable, though, including Leonard’s mom, Beverly. It also provided some hilarious moments from Sheldon, because he just doesn’t know how to filter.
When Mary and Alfred weren’t at the forefront, the introduction of Penny’s family was. Fans have met her father, Wyatt (Keith Carradine), before, but this is the first time they’ve seen her mom, Susan (Katey Sagal), and her brother, Randall (Jack McBrayer). Guess what? They were everything fans have hoped for. They meshed so well with Penny and the rest of the cast.

As great as Wyatt and Susan were, it was Penny’s brother who was a standout. Would you expect anything less from McBrayer? At first, I was a bit hesitant about seeing the 30 Rock alum take on the role of Randall, aka Penny’s drug-dealing ex-con of a brother. He doesn’t really seem to fit that description, but that’s what makes it so perfect. He was so great, in fact, that here’s hoping Randall pops up again — maybe even in a recurring role?
Thanks to all of the awkwardness, the uncomfortable moments and the spot-on jokes, Penny and Leonard’s second wedding was a million times better than their first. Even though they’d probably disagree with me, they have their families to thank for it.
The Big Bang Theory airs Mondays at 8/7c on CBS.
