Pippa Middleton is many things: an author, a philanthropist and of course, the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton’s sister. But one label she’d really like to get rid of is that of “party girl.”

Speaking during an interview with Daily Mail ahead of her second book launch, a charity cookbook titled Heartfelt (produced to raise money for the British Heart Foundation and out on Sept. 29), Middleton revealed that she’s really hoping that this new book can help alter the public’s negative perceptions of her.
“People see me as someone privileged who has used my position to advantage; that I don’t really work, that I am a socialite — that word really irritates me — and that I’m a party girl without any substance,” she said.
Middleton is referencing her first book — a party-planning book, Celebrate, which she wrote four years ago — which did not receive a warm reception. However, this book is expected to be different and vastly better as it focuses on fitness and food, which Daily Mail notes are Middleton’s core interests.
But it wasn’t just her book that Middleton touched on during her interview, as she also addressed the dark side of living her life in the public eye.
“I have had a few years of being in the public eye and I have developed something of a thick skin,” she says. “But managing it all on my own has been quite hard. I have quite a lot thrown at me, such as being followed by people hiding behind cars and jumping out with cameras. It can be unnerving.”

In fact, being thrust into the limelight is not quite as glamorous as you’d imagine. Middleton confessed that “there’s always something cropping up and that has to be managed on my own. It’s been a real eye-opener for [her fiancé] James [Matthews]. There have been quite a few hurdles to negotiate.”
