Anthony Bourdain couldn’t have known it at the time, but he perfectly timed his divorce announcement.

Bourdain and his wife of nine years, Ottavia Busia, quietly announced they were calling it quits the day before news broke that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie had filed for divorce. What better way to bury your high-profile celeb breakup than to announce it at pretty much the same time as a much, much higher-profile celeb breakup?
Still, that doesn’t make us any less sad about Bourdain and Busia’s split, even though it sounds like it’s super-amicable. Busia gave a statement to Page Six via email that explained the circumstances surrounding the divorce: “Because of professional decisions we both have made, my husband and I have been for years in an unconventional relationship. Nothing has changed. We love each other. We respect the decisions the other has made. And we’ll always consider ourselves a family.”

Bourdain revealed prior to the split that he’s on the road “250 days a year,” which can’t make it easy to maintain a marriage. “I love my family, but it’s not an ordinary family,” he told People magazine.
So far both Bourdain and Busia seem to be living up to their promise to keep loving and respecting each other. On Sunday, Bourdain won an Emmy award for his docuseries Parts Unknown, and Busia was quick to congratulate him on Instagram.
Bourdain and Busia married in 2007. They share a 9-year-old daughter, Ariane Bourdain.
