Well, it’s the end of Week 1 on Dancing with the Stars, and there have already been some pretty big shockers this season.

Aside from Ryan Lochte’s protesting scare during the first show, tonight’s episode saw an unexpected elimination.
I was pretty convinced Rick Perry would get the ax Week 1 of the show, but he’s lived to see another week, while The Fosters‘ Jake T. Austin was sent packing.
My political views aside, Perry wasn’t hitting it with his dance steps or his charisma on the stage, and the judges responded accordingly, giving him the lowest scores of the bunch.

Still, the American public seemed inspired enough to give him a second chance, so it’ll be interesting to see how Perry brings it back in Week 2.
Even judge Julianne Hough acknowledged that Perry got lucky having pro Emma Slater as his partner.
“Based on scores, Rick and Emma, they were the lowest. But I think that’s what this competition is about,” Hough said. “I think it also doesn’t hurt that Rick has Emma, who’s pretty fantastic.”
Maybe the sad truth about Perry’s survival on the show hinges on the fact that he was memorable for being so bad, while Austin, who fell on the lower end of the middle, was forgotten in the shuffle of other stars.

So while Perry will dance to see another week, I still maintain that he won’t be dancing for long. Though America does love a good comeback story, Perry’s already had his chance in politics.
