The Queen is undoubtedly grimacing at Kate Middleton & Prince William’s PDA

What’s this? The notoriously private and non-lovey-dovey royal couple may have just had a shocking PDA moment.

Kate Middleton and Prince William are currently on a week-long tour of Canada, and a photographer caught a rare moment in which Middleton publicly slipped Prince William… her hand. It was her hand! Get your mind out of the gutter. This is Kate Middleton, not Miley Cyrus.

Get ready to clutch your pearls at this scandalous public display of affection.

William is so tickled he had to adjust his tie.

While it doesn’t seem like much, Middleton subtly resting her hand on her husband’s thigh is kind of a big deal for these two, who are more often than not photographed standing far enough apart to leave room for the holy ghost.

While the Queen is probably wringing her hands at the bold move by Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge isn’t actually breaking any rules.

“There is no actual etiquette or royal protocol that says the couple must refrain from PDA,” Myka Meier, a royal etiquette expert and founder and director of Beaumont Etiquette, told People earlier this year after People noted that the couple doesn’t typically exchange hugs or hold hands when they are out and about.

“The likely reasoning is more that while traveling on a tour… technically the couple are working representatives of British Monarchy,” Meier added. “The couple are likely to show very little PDA, if any, to remain professional during their designated roles abroad.”

While we respect Middleton and Prince William’s conscious choice to keep things royally professional, we also eagerly encourage them to keep the PDA coming. It’s downright adorable.
