Dancing with the Stars should have just skipped the dance-off

Whoever gets sent home this week on Dancing with the Stars will have gotten the raw end of the dancing deal.

Thanks to the debate tonight, DWTS only got an hour-long episode instead of their normal two hours on Monday night. To compensate, the show had a quick dance-off in which the winning teams got immunity heading into the next episode. That’s a hefty win for only the second week of competition.

Vanilla Ice and Witney Carson, Jana Kramer &andGleb Savchenko, James Hinchcliffe and Sharna Burgess, Calvin Johnson and Lindsay Arnold, Maureen McCormick and Artem Chigvintsev, and Laurie Hernandez and Val Chmerkovskiy all got immunity.

Overall, I think it was kind of a pointless episode because the vast majority of teams who got immunity weren’t ever really in danger to begin with.

Of course Laurie Hernandez killed it, but some of the other teams did a beautiful job as well; the person they were up against just happened to get a higher score.

I think it would be a tragedy if Terra Jole and Sasha Farber were sent home just because they didn’t get immunity, as their waltz was stellar this evening. They scored so high that they would have beaten nine out of the 12 teams if they were competing individually. It just happens that in competing against Calvin Johnson and Lindsay Arnold, Jole and Farber didn’t get the highest scores.

Marilu Henner and Derek Hough, and Ryan Lochte and Cheryl Burke also gave solid performances this evening that shouldn’t send them packing.

I think this week Rick Perry and Emma Slater, and Babyface and Allison Holker will most likely be on the chopping block. The immunity didn’t save either of them so it won’t really make a difference going into elimination. Either way they had the weakest performances.

Maybe this whole episode just upped the pressure for the season by stressing out the teams even more? Of course, squeezing 12 dances into a one-hour show was enough for me to feel the stress even from my couch at home. And more stress was the last thing I needed before watching Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump go at it for 90 minutes.

Do you think the Dancing with the Stars dance-off was fair or should ABC have skipped tonight’s show?
