Updated Jan. 6, 2018, 12:30 p.m. PT: Ugh, we’re still crying a little bit over Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber being over and done with after being such a fab couple for so long. So what do they do? They go and tear open our wounds again by being so sweet and hopeful about their separation.
During an appearance on Sunday Today With Willie Geist, Schreiber opened up about moving on from Watts.
“It’s always hard, you know? You build a life with someone and things change. And I think the way that we’ve looked at it is that we’ll always be partners, and that’s what kind of keeps us together and keeps us amicable,” he said. “But I think we’re more than that, I think we also genuinely really care about each other.”
He continued, “It’s important to support each other, you know? It’s really important. I was making some jokes this morning at breakfast about Mommy with the boys, and their eyes light up when I talk about her. You can see how important it is to them that their parents care about each other and that no matter what happens, you continue to try and do that.”
I’m not crying, you’re crying!
Original story published Sept. 27, 2016: Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber have separated after 11 years together. We know, it’s pretty darn shocking.

The couple, who share two children, released a joint statement about their decision to part ways on Monday. In it, they said they’d come to the conclusion “that the best way forward for us as a family is to separate as a couple.
“It is with great love, respect and friendship in our hearts that we look forward to raising our children together and exploring this new phase of our relationship,” they continued before asking for privacy during this time.
The news obviously comes as a surprise to fans, but to insiders, it’s not all that shocking. A source on set of Schreiber’s series Ray Donovan told People magazine, “They have been on the rocks for quite a while.”
The reports of trouble in paradise were echoed by an E! News source, who told the publication that it wasn’t a single event that caused the split, but rather that it was “a long time coming.” However, unlike so many other Hollywood splits that turn bitter and nasty, that’s not expected to happen with these two, as the source said, “They’ll still be good friends and co-parents.”
And if their Instagram accounts are anything to go by, it appears that the pair are still on good terms — as just three weeks ago Watts shared a selfie of her and Schreiber.

Last week Schreiber also made an appearance on her social media, as she shared a photo of him and their son Alexander Pete (also known as Sasha) getting ready for the 2016 Emmys.

Just a few weeks ago, Schreiber also took to Instagram to share a sweet picture of Watts, which he captioned with, “Ay dios mio…” which translates to “oh my god.”

While we’re obviously sad to learn that these two are parting ways, it sounds like they have nothing but mutual respect and adoration for one another, and we hope that it stays this way in the months to come.
