As a cisgender white woman, the closest approximation I have to feeling what Williams felt is that pit I get in my stomach when I see a man following me at night. What Williams feels must be even worse than that, though, because the person instilling the fear in her is someone who’s supposed to be there to protect her. What an awful feeling that must be.
Williams ends her post with “I won’t be silent,” and neither will I. Black lives matter, folks. No one should ever have to feel like Williams did when she was inspired to write this powerful piece.
