It’s no secret that Hollywood can be tough on kids.
More:Miley Cyrus is serious about never stepping foot on a red carpet ever again
But Miley Cyrus, who covers Elle‘s October issue, just dropped a bomb about her time as a Disney star that just has us shaking our heads.
“I did not grow up spoiled in any way. I just wanted to be on TV,” Cyrus said about her time on Hannah Montana, the show that launched her to stardom. “I mean, at one point — they’ll probably kill me for saying it — I was probably the least-paid person on my cast because I didn’t know any better. I was just like, ‘I can be on Disney! Yeah, I want to do it!'”
Seriously? The lowest-paid person on the show? She was the star, for crying out loud!

She continued, “My name was Miley on my show, but I didn’t own my name — we didn’t think about that. Like, ‘Yeah, you can use my name on your show, sure!’ My mom started understanding how many people take advantage of a child, so she hired smart people to protect me in that way. I’m happy that when I was younger, people protected me and put me in a position where I can now control my music.”
Lucky is right. Cyrus became a household name and a teen phenomenon because of Hannah Montana. Tickets to her arena tours were nearly impossible to get at the height of the show’s four-year run. She was worth tons, but apparently the execs in charge of the show didn’t see it that way — or they just knew they could get away with taking advantage of her inexperience. How sad.
Luckily Cyrus used Hannah Montana to launch her career that she now controls, and she probably has more cash now than all those shady Disney execs combined.
