Even if you are a Donald Trump supporter, you have to admit that the latest leaked footage of Trump making grotesquely sexist comments to Billy Bush in 2005 is stomach turning. (If you haven’t already, you can witness the whole exchange here.)
While it’s true that every presidential candidate has skeletons in their closet, the lewd language Trump used is completely inexcusable — and Robert De Niro recently recorded a video that adequately describes how many Americans feel about the Bush/Trump conversation.
“He’s so blatantly stupid,” De Niro says in footage posted to the Occupy Democrats Facebook page. “He’s a punk, he’s a dog, he’s a pig, he’s a con, a bullshit artist, a mutt who doesn’t know what he’s talking about.”

“It makes me so angry that this country has gotten to this point that this fool, this bozo, has wound up where he has,” De Niro added. “He talks how he’d like to punch people in the face? Well, I’d like to punch him in the face.”
And, yes, many celebs echo De Niro’s sentiments about Trump, but the presidential hopeful does have at least one star in his corner. Angelina Jolie’s father, Jon Voight, took to Twitter on Saturday to defend Trump against De Niro’s speech.

“I am so ashamed of my fellow actor Bobby DeNiro’s rant against Donald Trump. What foul words he used against a presidential nominee who has worked harder then [sic] any other man I know in the past year and a half to get a good message to the American people,” Voight tweeted. “I don’t know of too many men who haven’t expressed some sort of similar sexual terms toward women, especially in their younger years… Donald Trump’s words were not as damaging as Robert DeNiro’s ugly rant. Trump’s words did not hurt anyone. Can you imagine… if any Republican said words like Robert DeNiro used — against Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama? All hell would break loose… I am calling for all Trump supporters to express their outrage and anger against DeNiro and all of the Republican turncoats against Trump. Let Donald Trump know we are completely behind him, and may God give him the strength to continue his calling.”
There’s nothing wrong with Voight defending his choice for president, but his statement in defense of Trump is flawed for one yuuuuuge reason: Voight excuses Trump’s disgusting comments about grabbing women by their genitalia because, according to Voight, almost all men have said something similar “in their younger years.” But the footage of Trump and Billy Bush was recorded in 2005, which means Trump was nearly 60 years old — not a young man by traditional standards.

Furthermore, youth does not excuse anyone from using the gross language Trump did in that footage. There really is no way to justify it. You can apologize and admit that it’s wrong, which Trump kinda did, but that still doesn’t make it go away.
Voight’s attack on De Niro for decrying Trump’s words is unwarranted and, well, almost as disturbing as Trump’s original conversation.
