The mother of Jim Carrey’s late ex is making some disturbing accusations

Jim Carrey was slapped with a lawsuit in September by Mark Burton, the estranged husband of his ex-girlfriend, Cathriona White, claiming that Carrey was responsible for White’s death and had gone to lengths to cover up his involvement. Now, Carrey is being hit by another lawsuit for the death of White, this time by her mother.

Brigid Sweetman is seeking unspecified damages from Carrey for the wrongful death of her daughter. In papers filed, Sweetman claims Carrey gave White “three STDs without warning her (herpes I and II and chlamydia), lying to her about it, ‘dumping’ her out of concern for saving his own carefully crafted public image, calling her a ‘whore’ and shaming her, and then using his high-priced Hollywood lawyers and ‘fixers’ to intimidate and threaten her in an effort to silence her,” according to People magazine. Sweetman says she obtained the details of White’s alleged STD contraction from screenshots taken of conversations between White and Carrey, as well as a handwritten note written from White to Carrey.

Sweetman also alleges that Carrey provided the prescription medications used in White’s suicide. Carrey has previously made statements that the medications were taken without his knowledge.

Carrey’s lawyer, Martin D. Singer, responded to the lawsuit, saying that it is without merit.

“It is understandable that a mother who has lost a daughter will look for someone to blame,” Singer said in a statement to People. “But in directing her grief and rage at Jim Carrey and joining this ridiculous lawyer’s attempt to capitalize on Cathriona’s suicide, Mrs. Sweetman is heading down the same dark path as Cathriona’s green-card ‘husband,’ Mark Burton.”

After Carrey recieved word of the suit filed by Burton, he released a statement similar to Singer’s above words, basically saying the filing was nothing more than a cheap money grab.

“I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved,” read Carrey’s statement. “Cat’s troubles were born long before I met her and sadly her tragic end was beyond anyone’s control. I really hope that some day soon people will stop trying to profit from this and let her rest in peace.”

“Jim Carrey should be ashamed of what he did to my daughter,” Sweetman herself said in a statement following her own suit filing. “And he should be ashamed for how he has used his Hollywood attorneys to badmouth Cat’s husband Mark with the hope that nobody will hold him responsible for what he did. As a family, we want the world to know the truth about who Jim Carrey really is.”

Hopefully White’s family and Carrey can come to a quick resolution so all involved can heal from White’s tragic death.
