Scott Baio may be more disgusting than Donald Trump.

The Republican presidential nominee has come under fire in the last week for some remarks he made in 2005 on a hot mic. He bragged about sexually assaulting women, claiming that because he was famous, he could do whatever he wanted to women without their consent, including “grab them by the pussy.”
It shouldn’t be surprising that Scott Baio would defend Trump even after this, but even Baio’s misogynistic track record couldn’t prepare us for how truly awful his remarks would be.
“I like Trump because Trump is not a politician. He talks like a guy, and ladies out there, this is what guys talk about when you’re not around. So if you’re offended by it, grow up, OK?”
Grow up? Grow up?! Excuse me, but did Baio just tell us to grow up because we got upset that a man literally bragged about sexually assaulting women?
This is rape culture, folks.

And for the record, lots of men have come forward to say, very vehemently, that no, this is not just what men talk about when they’re on their own. Sex talk is one thing; sexual assault talk is always unacceptable.
Baio ends his remarks on the subject by saying, “And by the way, this is what you guys talk about over white wine when you have your brunches. This is the way the world works. It’s not a big thing.”
I can’t say I’ve ever had a conversation about grabbing anyone’s genitals without their permission at any point in my life, but maybe that’s just me. Ladies? Back me up.
Baio is right about one thing: “This is the way the world works.”
Yes, this is the world we’ve created for women. It’s a world where 1 in 3 women will be sexually assaulted in her life, and less than 1 percent of accused rapists will ever see a jail cell.
And why is sexual assault under-reported and rarely prosecuted in the U.S.? Because of statements like Baio’s. When women believe that sexual assault is “the way the world works” and that powerful men brush it off as just something men do and talk about, when a freaking nominee for president jokes and brags about it, sexual assault happens, and women just accept it as a part of life. That’s fucked up, you guys. We can’t let Trump’s or Baio’s remarks slide. This has to end somewhere.
