Watching Erin Bates’ childbirth will convince you to get an epidural

The Bates family has added another member, and we got to be front and center for the delivery on Bringing Up Bates tonight.

Erin Bates Paine and her husband Chad Paine welcomed little Brooklyn Elise into the world at the beginning of August 2016, but the episode just aired on the family’s show.

Whitney Bates, Zach’s wife, also recently gave birth to their second baby Kaci Lynn, and I have to say, I think Erin’s delivery was way more up close and personal, though both allowed cameras inside the delivery room.

Like with Whitney’s birth, I cried. Of course I cried.

But with Erin’s, it was a little more intense. She had a high-risk pregnancy and was very nervous going into labor. Luckily, all was well because she got a trusty epidural. She was in so little pain, in fact, that she had to check with the doctor repeatedly to see if it was time to push.

“All I could do was cry,” Erin said of the moment when Brooklyn was finally born. “I was so happy!”

“Seeing Brooklyn for the first time was definitely a dream come true,” Chad added. “Just seeing Erin hold her and then getting to hold her for the first time and watching her eyes open and just look around and stare just in wonder, it was like a little bit of heaven on Earth.”

The most heartwarming part of the whole experience, though, happened after the delivery. With happy, healthy Mom and baby Brooklyn Elise all good to go, Chad and Erin’s son Carson was allowed in the room to meet his baby sister.

“Baby sissy’s here,” Erin said, showing Carson the new baby.

Carson promptly gave Brooklyn Elise a very sweet kiss, and my heart melted. Erin’s face perfectly captured the moment.
