Rumor has it that Mariah Carey and James Packer have called off their engagement because Packer couldn’t handle just how public their relationship is.

A source close to the businessman reportedly told Us Weekly that he’s “more private” and that he couldn’t take Carey always being around her whole entourage. The source added that while being in a “public relationship was fun for James at first,” it eventually “got to be too much and he wanted his normal life back.”
A source close to Carey also told the publication that Packer was not around enough and that she was forced to make the decision to leave him — a claim that Packer’s rep refuted, telling Us Weekly that it was “simply not true.”

Celebrity breakup rumors are nothing new. They happen all the time (and they’re often not even true), but even if the couple has decided to go their separate ways, we bet Carey’s rolling her eyes at all these reports about what went wrong in her relationship. Like, really, people.
What we do know comes from Carey’s rep, and that’s that the couple had a fight during a vacation in Greece last month. The rep told Entertainment Tonight that, “The fight was not because of any cheating allegations or excessive spending by Mariah” — noting that Packer is “one of the most successful businessmen in the world.”
“They are trying to work it out,” Carey’s rep continues. “Right now, they’re not sure if they will stay together.”

We’ll probably get our answer within the next few days though, as the couple is reportedly planning to release an official statement once they determine their future.
