We’re with Chelsea Handler on this one.

Handler was moved to tears during an interview with Shannen Doherty, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2015. In August, she revealed that the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes. Despite losing ground in her battle against her cancer, what Doherty has to say about it is actually beautiful — and heartbreaking, of course.
“I think what’s beautiful and hard and interesting about cancer is that it tears you down and builds you, and tears you down and builds you, and it remakes you so many different times,” Doherty said. “The person I thought I was supposed to be, or was going to be, or who I thought I was six months ago is now somebody completely different. And I realize, ‘Wow, I really thought that I was so brave and so gracious this entire time and really I was just hiding.'”

By that point in the interview, both Handler and Doherty were fighting back tears. Doherty told Handler not to cry as she continued.
“This was very hard and not humbling — because I’ve already been humbled by cancer,” she said. “It was hard in the sense of rethinking sort of who you are, and how you come to terms with who you are now and accepting it and looking at your husband and thinking, like, ‘Dude, I’m so sorry.'”
What makes the interview even more heart-wrenching is knowing that Handler and Doherty have been close friends for years, and Handler has been a huge support during Doherty’s battle with cancer.
“Chelsea reached out and has since, made a point to have date nights with me on a weekly basis,” Doherty wrote on Instagram. “Yeah she’s funny but also wicked smart with a huge heart. This one just wants to make a difference. Sometimes the right people come into your life at the right time.”
