Trudeau and his family went all out, with son Xavier, 9, as the Joker, daughter Ella-Grace, 7, as a witch, and Sophie Grégoire Trudeau wore a dramatic black dress. Youngest son Hadrien, 2, dressed as the title character from the much-loved French children’s book from 1943, Le Petit Prince (The Little Prince), and the PM was the pilot from the same story.
The couple shared photos of the first family getting into the Halloween spirit on their social media pages, giving us further proof that yes, Canada does have the best prime minister in the world.
According to the author of Le Petit Prince, aristocrat and pioneering aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, the book is for children, but written for grown ups. It’s the fourth most translated book in the world, and was voted the best book of the 20th century in France. The story features a pilot stranded in the Sahara desert, where he meets a young boy (“the little prince”) who has fallen to Earth from a tiny asteroid.

The Trudeaus were equally impressive last Halloween, taking their costume inspiration from Star Wars. The prime minister dressed up as Han Solo and Grégoire Trudeau partnered him as Princess Leia, complete with twin hair buns.
