Kim Kardashian West is still keeping a very low profile after she was bound, gagged and robbed at gunpoint in her Paris apartment last month.

She hasn’t yet returned to social media, and public sightings of her have been few and far between — she doesn’t seem to have left her house much other than to quietly attend a couple of husband Kanye West‘s concerts.
So it’s a big surprise to see Kardashian West not only out in public, but smiling in a photo on social media once again. It turns out that all it takes is a good cause to get Kardashian West back in the public eye these days, and taking Alton Sterling’s son, Cameron, out for his 16th birthday was the perfect opportunity.

Alton Sterling was shot and killed by police in Louisiana in early July as he was selling CDs outside of a convenience store. His killing sparked protests in the state and prompted Kardashian West to write an open letter in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
“I want my children to grow up knowing that their lives matter,” she wrote, “I do not ever want to have to teach my son to be scared of the police, or tell him that he has to watch his back because the people we are told to trust — the people who ‘protect and serve’ — may not be protecting and serving him because of the color of his skin.”
Cameron is the oldest of Alton Sterling’s children. His lawyer tweeted a photo of him with the Wests to thank them for helping with his birthday celebration.
