Australia is going to be returning to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2017, with the grand finale being held in Ukraine’s International Exhibition Centre on May 13.

It will be tough to improve upon our best-ever result in 2016 thanks to Dami Im and her song, “The Sound of Silence” (she placed second), but we do have an abundance of local talent, and we’d definitely be in the running for the title of Eurovision champ if some of these artists were to take part.
1. Kylie Minogue
Kylie Minogue has enjoyed great musical success over the years, with worldwide hits like “Locomotion,” “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” and “Spinning Around,” so she’s definitely got the pipes on her, not to mention she’s a real crowd-pleaser. That coupled with the fact that we haven’t heard much from Minogue in recent years — although she did recently tell fans to expect some surprises with her revamped Christmas album — would mean she’d be a great contestant, and the competition would be the perfect comeback platform for her.
2. Natalie Imbruglia
Natalie Imbruglia’s track “Torn” was basically our teenage anthem. She’s super-talented, she’s sold more than 10 million albums and her tracks have near-universal appeal, which is why we think she’d be a great addition to the competition. In 2015, Imbruglia made somewhat of a musical comeback with her album Male (a selection of covers originally written and recorded by men), so she clearly still has a lot left to give.

3. Sia
Sia is killing it in Hollywood, but she’s one of ours. Born in Adelaide, Sia’s made a name for herself with tracks like “Cheap Thrills,” “Chandelier” and “Elastic Heart,” and since she’s already topping the charts, it’s likely she’d walk away from the Eurovision Song Contest victorious. Our only question is: Would Maddie Ziegler join her onstage?
4. Darren Hayes
Darren Hayes made up half of the pop duo Savage Garden (with Daniel Jones) until its breakup in 2012. He has since embarked on a solo career (releasing four albums) — so we know he’s got the goods. But Hayes is particularly interesting because in 2013, he decided move to Los Angeles, California, to give singing a break and try his hand at improv sketch comedy and acting. Such a multitalented performer is bound to have great stage presence and charisma, not just mind-blowing vocals.
P.S. We’re still holding out for a Savage Garden reunion.
5. Olivia Newton-John
Olivia Newton-John was 6 when her family immigrated to Melbourne, and it’s impossible to imagine her as anyone other than Sandy Olsson from Grease (at least in our minds), so we can’t even begin to explain how much we’d love it if she put those black leather pants and bardot top back on and belted out “You’re The One that I Want” — plus the Eurovision Song Contest would be a great place to do it. Come on, Newton-John, make our childhood dreams come true.

6. Iggy Azalea
Iggy Azalea isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. In fact, she’s more like a shot of whiskey, and that’s why we love her. She’s fierce, opinionated and makes no apologies, and her musical style is super-catchy. Plus, she’d add something fresh and edgy to the competition.
