Billy Bob Thornton’s marriage to Angelina Jolie played on his insecurities

In the wake of Angelina Jolie‘s divorce from Brad Pitt, one of her other ex-husbands, Billy Bob Thornton, is sharing his thoughts on his own relationship with Jolie.

The couple were married in 2000 and divorced in 2003, and Thornton’s recent comments make it seem like the split came as no surprise to him. Speaking during an interview with GQ magazine, he dropped quite a bombshell when he claimed, “I never felt good enough for her.”

That’s not all. Jolie was also meeting with a lot of important people at the time — ambassadors of the United Nations, the president or adoption agencies — while Thornton enjoyed staying out of the limelight. This was another contributing factor to the demise of their relationship because, he claims, he was “real uncomfortable around rich and important people.”

Thornton and Jolie are reportedly still friends. He’s made little attempt to cover up his two tattoos of her name (one is covered with an angel, but you can still see Jolie’s name), and this is not the first time that Thornton has addressed their infamous whirlwind relationship, during which they even wore vials of each other’s blood around their necks. He previously told The Hollywood Reporter that “it was a crazy time. I’ve never been fond of it.” However, it is surprising to learn that Thornton, who is 20 years Jolie’s senior, felt insecure in his relationship with her.
