Westworld hasn’t slacked on the twists and turns in Season 1, but tonight’s episode changed the game for the remainder on the show.

Bernard is a host! I repeat: Bernard is a host!
I know we all called this one a while ago, but that didn’t make it any less of a revolutionary discovery tonight. Especially because it seems that Ford (Anthony Hopkins) is the only one who knows that Bernard is not human. And not just that, but within the span of the few minutes after Ford revealed Bernard’s true nature to Theresa, Bernard promptly killed his unsuspecting lover.
Clearly, Westworld is blurring the lines between good and evil with this series because I have no idea who I’m rooting for at this point. Is the Man in Black good or evil? Is Ford working to save Westworld and his hosts, or is he trying to control all the power within his empire? Both? Even Dolores could be acting for the sake of a predetermined storyline rather than free will. And now Maeve might turn murderer for the sake of escaping Westworld.

Theresa also asked the key question before she died: Rather than suicide, did Ford murder Arnold? Ford cleverly didn’t answer, saying Bernard wasn’t around during the time of Arnold. I actually think this is a bigger clue alluding to the fact that Bernard is programmed with Arnold’s consciousness and genius.
So did Ford murder Arnold and then replace him with a more agreeable Bernard?
This could be a likely scenario, especially since we’ve seen Bernard seemingly conspiring with Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood). Perhaps Bernard is taking the same path as his human counterpart and becoming sympathetic to the host’s plight. How interesting would it be if Bernard was actually the first host to obtain free will, and he’s behind the maze and the host awakening? He could lead the revolution against the humans.

Do you think Bernard could secretly have free will and be plotting against Dr. Ford?
