People either loved or hated Gigi Hadid’s Melania Trump impression

There’s one joke that Gigi Hadid probably would have been better leaving out last night at the American Music Awards.

Hadid teamed up with Jay Pharoah to host the AMAs and made the joke that has the internet fiercely choosing sides today: her impression of incoming first lady Melania Trump.

“I love my husband, President Barack Obama, and our children, Sasha and Malia,” she joked in a heavy fake accent, referencing (still?) the speech that Melania Trump plagiarized from first lady Michelle Obama during the Republican National Convention, like, six months ago.

Even though Pharoah made a number of jokes about President-elect Donald Trump, it was Hadid’s impression of Melania that got all the attention, mostly from people calling the supermodel out for her racist impersonation of Melania’s Slovenian accent.

But while Twitter seems to show that the vast majority of responses to Hadid’s impression were from people who hated it, she did get a little bit of support here and there.

The one thing that’s for sure is that people either loved the joke or hated it; there’s no in-between.
